Is Heartworm Medicine for Dogs Necessary?

1. Actually, I live in the southeast and my dog had a BAD reaction to Simparica trio . I’m scared to get her the shot now ( vet agrees the shot is a risk ) . She suggested HeartGard . What do you think? I’m terrified to try it . PS , my ex brother in law’s dog got heartworm back in the mid 2000’s . So it’s definitely possible where I live . I just can’t stand the idea of making my baby sick again! She became almost paralyzed, her tongue was hanging out and she was drooling . She couldn’t stand for long and could only take a couple of steps without collapsing. She’s only 7 pounds. I don’t like how the dosing is 0-25 pounds. That’s a lot of room for excess dosage ! Considering trying a half of one .

2. You folks up north are lucky if you don’t have mosquitoes! They practically carry us away where I live . You can’t go outside in the evening and actually enjoy yourself in summer without spraying on repellant and even with it , ya still get bit . I’ve done all the things one is supposed to do to prevent them . They just like it here 😢

3. My dog is allergic to heart worm medication, she has seizures and neurological effects from it. Does anyone know an alternative that actually works

4. Apparently it’s now becoming more prevalent my vet said they had 3 dogs this year already that contracted heartworm since January in illinois and 2 cases at another vet
